Welcome to Chagford C of E Primary School
Chagford Church of England Primary School is a happy and thriving learning community currently with 129 children, we have just had another Foundation Stage intake this January 2010.We liaise closely with the Big Oak pre-school who are based on site. We have 6 classes-Foundation Stage, Year 1, Year 2/3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6. We actively encourage all learners to accomplish their very best in all aspects of school life. Whilst believing that children should leave us accomplished in the key skills of literacy and numeracy we also place great importance in educating the whole person. We actively encourage children to experience new things and provide many opportunities in music, sport and the arts to help them to do this. Above all, we help children in these vital formative years to develop a sense of who they are. We show them how to respect and care for each other; to take personal responsibility and to follow a moral code of conduct. Each class has rules written by the pupils. These the feed into the school Golden Rules which are for everybody within the school.
The school itself was built in the 1930s and enjoys the use of extensive grounds and buildings, with a tree lined sports field, shrubbery, gardens, nature reserve and playground, plus superb views across Dartmoor - a unique setting which we make much use of for educational visits. We have an amphitheatre for outdoor plays and a nearby open air swimming pool. Our school is very well resourced with library, ICT suite and all necessary equipment to meet the demands of the varied school curriculum. The school has a close relationship with Chagford Big Oak Pre-school, which is on the school site; this greatly facilitates the transition of children into Foundation Stage and is seen as a benefit to school and community.
The teaching staff and governors believe that happy children become learning children and grow into fulfilled and responsible adults. That is our vision. I urge you to come along and see for yourself our very special school environment. My door is always open.
